Wool campaign gets Royal seal of approval

Prince Charles admires a woollen blanket held by curator Ann Whittall during his recent visit to the Welsh Woollen Museum in Drefach Velindre.

A campaign led by the Prince of Wales to highlight the benefits of wool as “the most versatile fibre known to man” has already spread to countries as far away as Japan, Australia and the USA.

Prince Charles launched the Campaign for Wool in January to persuade consumers of the benefits of textiles that are wool-rich and he re-iterated its key messages during a recent visit to the Wool Museum at Drefach Velindre.

The Campaign aims to inspire wool related industries to work together in promoting the natural and sustainable attributes of wool throughout the supply chain. It will go public through a promotional campaign in major retail
stores this autumn and, if successful, will be great news for Welsh farmers who have seen the value of wool plummet in recent years.

Prince Charles referred to the many qualities and environmental benefits of wool, citing its natural flame retardance, its comfort and the fact that it is a natural product which is also entirely biodegradable.

Summer Craft Fair

The weekend of 10th and 11th July saw the TVTA hold their first summer Craft and Gift Fair at Norwood Gardens in Llanllwni. Nine Association members had stalls in the barn at Norwood selling a wide variety of items, from plants to pottery and from honey to horse halters.

This was the first of a planned seasonal series of Craft Fairs that the TVTA will hold at member's locations across the region with the next one set to be a Winter Fair at Caer Delyn, Dolgran in the run-up to Christmas.
